kids these days..
Hey guys!
How has your days been?
Recently I was cleaning out my attic and I found this box full of stuff from the war. And I was thinking back to those days and man did those days suck!
I mean victory bonds? Kids these days always complain about how they wish they had this or that, oh the new ipod BLAH BLAH BLAH. They dont understand what it feels like to have no money to spend or even money to life off of.
remember when all we saw was fund raising posters to BUY VICTORY BONDS! i mean boy were we ripped off from those. Like yea were suppose to to give our money to the government when we just got it all back from the depression. Ah, but the government was smart, eh? promising us 5% of what we gave after the war. :) yea me and my wife gave into it, i mean whats a few tractors gone for the good of the world?.. and more money afterward to buy 2 more tractors. I guess victory bonds are kind of like investing into the stock market, but for the government so its safer.
guys, how much did u give the government.. and how much did you get back?
i wonder if you were ripped off :)

I remember at that time i was desperate. I would do anything to help out with the war effort. I probably gave the government 2 weeks of my pay, although like you said, never really got anything back! There were victory bonds propaganda everywhere i looked. i guess i gave in like everyone else. I hope that money really did help out in the war!
I 100% agree with your title! Really, KIDS THESE DAYS! No respect and they take everything for granted! I remember my grandson came up to me and yelled at me because his dad wouldn’t get him some sort of “X-Box”. I don’t remember much about victory bonds, but I remember my mom and my Aunt talking about them when I was about 9 years old. I don’t necessarily think we were “ripped off”, because at the end, we still helped the men at work, one way or another. But I do agree with you that the government’s strategy in fundraising for war was indeed intelligent!
I couldn't help it! Those posters reared their ugly heads at you from every wall, every street corner. They were everywhere! It was impossible not to get sucked into the idea and guilt- tripped into compliance. I stood strong for a month or two before I finally gave in. However, it was nice to know I was helping the boys out somehow, since I didn't enlist. Sure I'm a bit annoyed at our government, but at the end of the day, I'm just happy those times are long over.
